focus items
beyond staves, what other focus items are available in the game?
Re: focus items
There are also sapphire rings that can give bonus OB or bonus DB, aside those phials can be made as well.
Re: focus items
Items that can be focused:
- oak staff ? oak staff
- topaz ? pale blue stone
- adamant ? small crystal phial (dipping determines special effect)
- ruby ring ? sapphire ring (dipping determines modification)
- iron ring ? sapphire ring (dipping determines modification)
- banded ring ? sapphire ring (dipping determines modification)
- jewelled ring ? sapphire ring (dipping determines modification)
Re: focus items
Can you be more complex on dipping jewelled rings? Which ring in which pool will make what ? OR name examples you already tested.
Thankx

Re: focus items
In general, dipping any of listed rings gives:
One exception is banded ring, which is considered to be 3ob 3db for the purpose of focusing no matter what its actual modifiers are. So dipping it in moon pool (+5db) gives 3ob 8db for example, even if it was 5db banded before and you would expect 10db sapphire ring.
Focusing a jewelled rings (the oie ones) will also remove their negative effect from removing them and make them (like any other foci item) usable only by their owner and give them the power to call an eagle.
Note: Do not ever dip rings into star pool, as the -20 spell save effect is clearly too weak. You can get much more by focusing an adamant (which is also -20 save and much more) and using the regular ring instead. Also focusing an oie ring - where only manaring makes some sense - is probably bad idea, as for caster-type chars a focused oak staff is much better choice.

Re: focus items
One thing to keep in mind for anyone considering focusing a copper ring: they can (or could a few years ago) not have all of +attack, -save and a db- or ob bonus, so dipping one in the moon- or sun pools will (would?) remove the +attack effect.
As far as I know any magic ring, including arda rings, can be focused. I have never tried, nor heard of anyone else trying, to focus a non-magic ring (such as a wedding ring).
