Re: MUME Ansible

A magician from some islands? That doesn't sound promising at all!

Empire of the East (Fred Saberhagen) is where it's at. It's some sort of a Tolkienish world set in our own post apocalyptic future. It is juvenile compared with LOTR, but I found it entertaining nonetheless.

Re: Movies to watch

The set design is beautiful, but CGI was misapplied to the zombies. And yes, they're really all more like vampires in the book. Where the movie really missed though was the character of Robert Neville. I wouldn't ruin the story for you but "I am Legend" has quite the opposite meaning in the book. Wi...

Re: Scout changes

It takes some guts to use escape in pk because sometimes, inexplicably, it just doesn't work. I'll just eat bash or some horrible spell and that's it. Failed escape death. If you flee- you've got to get away, and quick, cause that blows your cover. I've only ever tried scouts in PK after the changes...

Re: MUME Ansible

You'd never hear from them again, they'd be put inside some machines made by the US government for top-secret communications that would be impossible to intercept.

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)

I like MUME because it's challenging. All the times I've died have added up to a great ability to re-equip myself if I haven't learned anything else... However--if there's a time sink that needs to be addressed--it's mobdeath. Soloing is what a newbie needs to do to learn the game, and soloing hosti...

Re: MUME Ansible

Transferring data from one place to another instantaneously is certainly faster than light, right? But since it's just data and not particles, that does not have much to do with relativity. "Two systems in different correlated states" sounds to me as if a transfer of data somehow occurs. This is the...

MUME Ansible

Anyone know anything about quantum entanglement? And if you had a faster-than light connection to MUME, would you ever quit playing? I think as a human race, we should aim for worldwide faster-than light communications, but the one caveat to that would probably be multiplying MUME's addictive qualit...

Re: Warriors and spells

I find bob extremely useful for an elf warrior. It can suck to have heavy as hell equipment and try to go anywhere without leaving yourself in danger. Almost necessary for traveling long distances.

Re: Hallohid typhomoid

We sinning MUMERs, full of disdain for the real world created by G-D, will end up in the worst hell of all. MUME hell. We'll all just have our consciousness dropped into a machine running MUME, and we'll never get to take a break.

Re: Hallohid typhomoid

Hallohid is obviously a half/human half/Fallohid race...
Typhomoid is maybe a reference to something similair to a typhoon, but more likely a "Typhom" is an uninvented term referring to a MUME typo that becomes a statement different than intended.

Re: Recent changes, a bright future ahead

I've never played a Zaug, but I find them constantly hunting me in every corner of Arda. it does kind of ruin the game for some people when theres stabbing Zaugs making a career of hunting noobs in places they thought were somewhat safe. It doesn't help when they can stab even Hero+ non-warriors dea...

Introduce Yourself

I'm from Roanoke, Virginia, USA and I'm 22 years old. Hey! it's my birthday today. My characters on MUME are Parrafin the weakass Elf warrior and Tarptus, a Dunadan Ranger. I haven't really played any other MUDs. I usually enjoy real-time strategy games like Star Craft or Red Alert, or adventure gam...

Hey man, I'll XP with you any time and show you a few tricks that might help to keep you from getting backstabbed (even from Ugurz! omgomg) I play Tarptus more often than Parrafin and for some reason I end up in so many pk situations with Ugurz... Re: PANIC! A rethink...

the flee system is confusing, i don't understand the maluses of panic, and the fact that there's a thief skill 'escape' separate from fleeing. all the while 'attack' aids you in fleeing. i mean, who in their right mind is going to shoot/escape when shoot/flee works just fine with a little more patie...

Re: PANIC! A rethink...

If the sum of levels on one side of battle > other side, then becoming wimpy from 'flee' would be less likely to extremely rare. Or something to that effect.
