Re: Movies to watch

For me, I Am Legend was interesting and entertaining in some parts, but the real problem was that it left me with nothing when it was over. I had nothing to think about (Fight Club excelled in that regard) and so it was simply a short amount of time wasted on something which could have been spent on...

Re: Movies to watch

I must say, Fight Club is still the best film I have ever seen. 300 was an utter waste of time, Timodeus is 100% right. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a classic, definitely worth watching. O Brother Where Art Thou was OK the first time, and very good a few years later. It grows on you like a...

Re: stats or percentage?

It is entirely possible to create a mage type character without bob or str (without str is rather common, bob less so), and therefore gain a small bonus to your mage spells (visible mostly through shield/armour, as they are the only things you see -- albeit 'soft' -- numbers for). But you have to as...

Re: Question about experience

As far as I can tell, it seems to be based somewhat on how much dmg you do and how much dmg you take from said mob (but to a lesser degree). So a good way to say it would be, xp gain is based upon your actual involvement in the fight, not just if you're engaged. There are some other unknown factors,...

Re: The MUD Client "How do I do that?" thread

What's the purpose? You will have a hotkey which does absolutely nothing then, where leaving the target set will possibly help you out in situations where you suddenly have to press it before you think about setting the target. I really don't know if/how you can clear a variable in JMC, but if you'r...

Yes, thanks a bunch for the new zones, it'll be nice to explore again.

If only we knew what was behind that tantalizing blackhatch, though!

Re: Link cap

Well, I wouldn't put it quite that strongly. But it annoys me that there are people who say "Yeah I know what bad link is like and it's a little bit harder to get away" after playing from (in this example) 200-250ms for a few minutes then having their link go back to <30ms. Then they often say "yeah...

Re: Subforum for Client Scripts

Doesn't necessarily have to be a subforum, but it could be useful for some people who don't know how or haven't been bothered to setup their clients properly. A link to the section on ER about client scripts wouldn't be out of place, either.

Re: Keep at bay

Keep at bay is (or was) based on your opponents PB and your own OB to some extent, thought that matters to a lesser degree! That's why it's so good vs smiters :) Some rather obvious tactics occur in the light of this information.

Re: Link cap

Haha, poor link to you is 200-250ms, Edvard. Cute. It's funny that those who have very fast links and seem to think it doesn't matter (true to a certain point, but not at all with the speeds we're talking about in this thread) would be the first ones to quit if they had to play from anything but the...

Re: Link cap

I'm not sure, but I think Ilie would happily supply the remote server source to any coder willing to debug it. Maybe, but that's not much help, since nobody else is gonna be allowed access to MUME's network code, which would make the debugging process a little difficult I guess. It is the only way ...

Re: Link cap

If you think it sucks with a bad link, why do you want it to suck for me too? That's not very nice of you. Nobody is being vindictive, the aim is to put everyone on a more even footing. Alternate idea ... run a 2nd instance of Mume on a server in the USA. I know that wont help the Aussies, etc. but...

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.

I used that guide when I started playing :) the only problem is that some people don't find it (either because they don't look or don't feel they need it) -- I have told quite a few new players about it and they have almost always been surprised it existed. I think it would be helpful to make a stic...

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.

Good idea. Although as you pointed out, there's more than one place you can start as a newbie. So perhaps there could be a very basic newbie guide with essential commands and that sort of thing, and then it could branch of into "So, you want to begin in Lorien/Grey Havens/Fornost?" Or something simi...
