Re: Binary Storing Data in Itself

It might be helpful to look into the disassembly of your program as well. And if you ARE running a nix OS you may want to look at some pages linked to from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executable_and_Linkable_Format Also if this is just for a small toy program, you may want to look into assembly. Ev...

Re: Introduce Yourself

I'm from California, USA. I'm 18 and its NOT my birthday. I've had some older characters that were hero/legend+ but they deleted. I first played MUME around '01, but I was 11 and I didnt really fit in with the mature player base (not to say all young people are immature). Currently I play Slippy(leg...

Re: What is a 'puke'?

I was told some years ago that it started because darkies would narrate like this "4 whities abr *pukes*", and over time it evolved into what it is now. Of course I have no idea how credible that is.

Re: Movies to watch

Stranger than Fiction.

Its a really great movie, and its fun to watch Will Ferrell in a role that is out of his norm.

Re: [Project] Supermobs

The problem is that mobiles will always be static, and therefore after XX times you'll know exactly how to kill it, and the fun will be gone again. Obviously, after doing anything one thing enough, you learn how to do it. Its a given that after time, anything put into the game will be mastered by s...

Re: What would you change?

I disagree that rewriting the ford area would help anything. With the global communications, its easy to get into a battle if you want to; people are always throwing out nars about enemy movements/fights. I don't think its the layout, I think it is just the way people play today vs the way they used...

Re: Search, Reveal and Flush

I think there should be at least a good chance of you finding them while they are stabbing if your revealing. I totally agree with the flush idea, thats a great point. And it reveals you when you search for rivendell, I'd assume because you are searching the ground for hidden clues, which would like...

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.

Although aliases arent, colours are covered in the newbie section. And I disagree that base stats/maps etc. prevent new players from becoming great players. I personally had the most fun when I first started and didn't know anything about stats, and I was exploring (not using a map). I think that it...

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.

I'm not sure how recently you've looked at http://mume.org/newbie.php , but it seems to me that it is "a very basic newbie guide with essential commands and that sort of thing". Although I do like your idea of having a basic guide for each starting city. Just some basic information of course... And ...

Re: What would you change?

The below are taken from the NOIDEA help page: "Being able to buy heals or healing spells from clerical-mobiles" "Banks and places to store excess equipment" I strongly agree with the second one. But I'm not sure if the first is such a bad idea that it deserves being NOIDEA'd. After all, there is th...

Odd moments in RL caused by MUME

Well, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have used lingo from MUME in a conversation with someone who doesn't play. Thats always kind of funny. For instance, when I first started playing a lot I said "say hey dad" to my dad. Most recently, after reading all of the [idea] threads on the general board, ...

Re: Minor change: corrupt

Maybe you could make a separate board for posting news like this. That way we can all... discuss it in a civilized manner ;)
