Re: Movies to watch
I'm not that conservative about it. The grand theories of physics have been dismissed in the past, why shouldn't it happen with the current ones as well? I see no reason to believe that the current ones will stay for good. Space was considered absolute as well not long ago, you know. ;) --- There's ...

Re: Movies to watch
Looking at your further explanations and examples I'd say that you most certainly disagree with Clarke. The whole point of his quote is that the line between the two cannot be drawn with fair certainty. That we're left with guessing. And I believe Clarke already has an answer to your "Faster than li...

Re: Movies to watch
Even if technology of some level can be considered to be basically magic (he, look at a lot of stuff we have today... that's already like magic) it still stays a fact it is not magic. So you disagree with Clarke? Concerning Star Wars I'm more interested in what becomes of the Star Wars live-action ...

You can't rule out the possibility that Star Wars is physically possible!
Remember:
Remember:
Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

Re: How do parry and dodge work?
Your defensive warrior can get hit because defence is somewhat random these days. Anyone can get hit, no matter the defence. So that alone doesn't yet reveal the mechanism behind this. I'd be a bit surprised, though, if it really were two separate rolls... kind of goes against experience... I think?

Re: Metals + Armour spell
All casters use the armour spell, whether they use metal armour or not. Read what Mhoghedin said about absorb, there are clear benefits.

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.
Probably the result of an extreme MUME-addiction? :ugeek: I had a look at the warriors' board guides. The latest one (from 2003) is up to date in most things, however changes in the fields of armour and stats (mostly the training-possibility) have made the guide somewhat outdated. Could use an updat...

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.
They're not horribly outdated, but they could be better. And if people are reading them, then it might be worth considering also posting updates on these boards as part of the "better guides for newbies" development.

Re: Let's put together a newbie guide.
Concerning newbie guides, I got this question to everybody here: Did you read the Guides posted on class-boards (that'd be clerics', warriors', mages' and thieves' boards) or not? And how useful did you consider them? Personally all my first characters were warriors and I read the stuff on Warrior b...
Re: Pans
Since when can't one buy a pan in BM's general store? Oh and... sure that hunter north of the river Lhun doesn't have any pans in his chest/table/such?

Re: [HowTo] Advanced Character Statistics
Search mechanisms was deliberately downgraded on ER some years ago so people wouldn't resurrect (very) old threads that often. Inability to find useful stuff was the "collateral damage", unfortunately.

Why has the website project died?Jahara wrote:I would also like to mention that part of promoting MUME would be enhancing the website or wiki. Since the website project seems to have died down, the wiki is still something everyone can slowly add to on a day-by-day basis.

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)
Vortenos, I think Dianos already said everything what I was going to say anyway, so I won't repeat it. However, you're judging the potential players too easily. There are many kinds of people. People have different goals in the game. And losing a lot while dying can be exactly what motivates people ...

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)
If you look at various other games, which MUME competes with for players, such as Guild Wars, Everquest, Ultima Online, etc. there is little to no penalty for dieing. It makes it hard to keep especially new people, who basically are penalized for learning the game. To be on an equal footing with th...

Re: Warriors and spells
In relation to what Singleton wrote I have a question too.
Is it true that some herblores are easier to mix and some harder? Meaning that, lets say, wis10 will fail some herblores more often than others because they're considered "more complicated"? (I've never got a straight answer to this before.)

Re: Q: How to get inside Rivendell?
Elves can get into Lorien without any help, though.
The question I actually have related to Lorien is: can half-elves get in on their own as well?

Re: Q: How to get inside Rivendell?
Unless something has changed within last few years it is possible to get inside while not being a citizen. Not totally sure, but I think that your race and also, importantly, your alignment (have it as high as possible) have quite some to do with it.
