If you're not squeamish, check out Dead Alive
it's an old peter jackson zombie movie, and i've heard it has the world record for most fake blood ever used in a movie. it's fucking hilarious too. it bears no comparison to the lord of the rings trilogy, but it's absolutely one of peter jackson's best works.

some other random horror movies i love:
Skinned Deep (feat. warwick davis as a plate chucking maniac)
Gingerdead Man (feat. Gary Busey as the title character)
...that one's really horrible
Evil Dead 1, 2,& 3 are all good, but if you haven't seen Army Of Darkness, just go see that one first.

Last night I saw "Let there be Blood"
I don't know how to explain it without spoiling it, but it follows the life of an oil speculator at the turn of the century (not this one). it is not nearly as violent as the title might imply, if you're squeamish. i'm afraid it might be allegorical (ACK) and i don't know what it's really about, but it's still very good. the soundtrack reminds me of planet of the apes!

no, i am no vampire...
i probably look more like an elf, or half-elf even
but for some reason i doubt i'm immortal

Parrafin, the movie you're talking about is probably "There will be blood"? It was very well received by the critics and alot of people seemed to love it. I thought it was kind of boring I'm afraid ;)

you're right about the title, my mistake.

the plot meanders and seems pointless, which is why i think it's some sort of allegory. at points it is very slow... but i found the main character to be intriguing enough to carry me through the movie.

I must say, Fight Club is still the best film I have ever seen.
300 was an utter waste of time, Timodeus is 100% right.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a classic, definitely worth watching.
O Brother Where Art Thou was OK the first time, and very good a few years later. It grows on you like all Cohen brothers films.
I Am Legend was another waste of time, yet another film which was blown far far out of proportion.

If you like crime dramas, Kurt Wallander is quite good (series of movies).
High Fidelity was quite funny and entertaining, though it's getting a bit old now.
Serenity + Firefly are utterly brilliant, and worth watching over and over again!
Hot Fuzz is one of the funniest movies of all time, especially if you have been tortured with too many American action films.
Pan's Labyrinth was quite strange but rather good.

Oh, I pretty much liked I Am Legend... well, apart from the last five, ten minutes, they sucked.

SPOILER-ALERT (in case you still want to watch it)

But the message of that movie... urks... "There were too many humans on the world, so god could not be heard anymore.
Thus, god killed most of them (over 90%) and then his tiny voice can be heard again... then he gives the people the cure (and kills of the guy who found it)"

How stupid is that...? I don't think that message was intended, but it is the one I got! But the rest of the movie is rather good, I think and worth to be watched.

For me, I Am Legend was interesting and entertaining in some parts, but the real problem was that it left me with nothing when it was over. I had nothing to think about (Fight Club excelled in that regard) and so it was simply a short amount of time wasted on something which could have been spent on an overall more entertaining activity. I suppose asking for a message or concept to consider is going beyond a typical (American) Action/Adventure film but it really was a bit boring. It finished and.... I felt a bit cheated, like I'd been decieved that there was going to be some tidy and well thought out ending. Did the script get effected by the writer strikes some time ago? Felt as though it was 2/3 of the way through and someone else picked it up and pasted a big messy ending all over what could have been a promising film.

I think this is the best acting I've seen from Will Smith, but that doesn't, and never will save badly written movies.

The set design is beautiful, but CGI was misapplied to the zombies. And yes, they're really all more like vampires in the book. Where the movie really missed though was the character of Robert Neville.
I wouldn't ruin the story for you but "I am Legend" has quite the opposite meaning in the book.
Will Smith kind of plays a Robert Neville that's a scientific Jesus, and that's great and all for a hollywood movie. That totally made the end lame and predictable. ZZZZZZZZZZZ...
Richard Matheson's Robert Neville is an alcoholic, originally was a factory worker, and his will to live simply makes him into a "legend."

Movies to watch; The Chick's perspective!

Post by meian »

My Sassy Girl. It's a Korean Drama. Don't run away; It's got it's drama, but nothing like that North American 'Soap opera' crap. It's told in the perspective of a guy (Gyeon-woo), who tells the story of a girl (whose name is actually never said in the movie,) he met while she was drunk on the train. Due to some comedic events and circumstance, he finds himself carrying the girl (who by now has passed out,) to a motel for the night. The story continues on about their relationship after that incident as the guy tries to figure out more about this girl while trying not to get pwned by whatever her antics bring.

There's some asian humour in there, but otherwise, a really good romantic comedy. =/ but sadly, I think there's going to be an American adaptation of this story, and I'm pretty sure that it's going to fail epically.
I'm a GIRL who plays MUME. =3

"Das Boot" - The best submarine movie ever.
It is in german (naturlich) so search for subtitles also.

Edit - Seems that there is also an elglish dubbed version (all actors in major roles dubbed their own voices according to IMDB).

Forget about "Transformers". It is much worse than the critics make you think. I totally fell for it and watched one of the 20 most stupid movies I know...

Boring sunday evening? Get a few friends, some popcorn, don't expect too much, and have a nice time with "Ironman".

Physically possible? Probably not. But neither is Star Wars. ;)

Forget about "Sunshine". Rocking setting, great potential, very good first half (or so)... but utterly ruined by the script around 70% or the runtime. UTTERLY ruined, just believe me. ;)
