Re: Death Of MUME?
> The learning curve is so huge there's no point in trying to learn. I don't understand this point. I learned the game from scratch without any help, I'm sure others have and could. I did discover Gray's docs on-line at some point, which helped, but I learned a lot on my own too. > And if you dont h...

After three years, I think it's safe to say, "it's dead, Jim".

Re: General Thief Balance Ideas
"It is broken for combat." It's broken period. I mean, a thief that can't steal? Think about it! ;-) I imagine the name "thief" is simply a hang-over from DikuMUD, and the class is really supposed to be a "light warrior" (well, scout in fact!), with the warrior class proper as the "heavy warrior": t...

Re: Next zones for Building
Although, I'd say that the GH-BM area is pretty dangerous already for the non-experienced player. Within the time that I've been playing (since 2005, if I remember rightly), there have been several measures taken to render the BM/GH area less dangerous: no more huge black wolves in Dense Forest a b...

Re: where are the gods?
I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that, as the volume of replies to your post might indicate, MUME is indeed yet another faded and barely populated MUD that exists only for a core group of players and no one else. The good news is, if you want to play anyway, you don't really need a G...

Re: Town Justice Problems
It's all rather moot, though, Wobbler. The "West" in Arda is more like the American "Wild West" than anything in Tolkien: evil "role-playing" pukes rampage at will, and there is no power that can stop them. A thought, though: if such an puke wipes out the defences of the Brandywine Bridge, say, and ...

Re: Town Justice Problems
Excellent ideas, Wobbler. In particular, the West definitely needs more protection against evil "role-playing" whities. On the small boys stealing in tbad, isn't it only the one, near the Captain? I think he's treated the same as regular thief as regards killing i.e. you don't get wanted.

Re: Q: How to get inside Rivendell?
Androg is right: you don't have to be a citizen (this is something of a "MUME legend"); but the facility with which you can "seek rivendell" depends on your race and alignment. And of course you must be in the right place (most rooms called "High Moor", but not all, if I remember rightly). I myself ...
Re: Fans
I agree with Wobbler most strongly. This must be about the most pointless and annoying addition to the game ever. And oh, so very Tolkienish -- not!
Stray dogs are a nice little bit of local colour, though.

Re: What would you change?
I'm not sure if anything is being done about 'old' instant death traps, but I agree that I'd like to see them replaced and removed. Old "instant DTs" are being removed. For example, the tower south of Fornost, where the werewolf stands outside, that used to have an "instant DT" -- the down exit fro...
