Re: Travel Points

I find it absurd that if I run with my lowbie torc from NOC to the back-end of Lorien that I only get enough TP for level 12. I mean it's a long fucking journey. Same with running to Tharbad as lowbie :/ I mean if the system is now based on how well-travelled you are instead of visiting seldom-visi...

Re: Safe client actions

For JMC, I don't think there is a way to reference single words in actions, I'm pretty sure it can only deal with strings. The following action is what people probably have: #action {^%1 tells you} {#var friend %1} That action is unsafe, because something like this would get you into trouble... emot...

Re: MUME Ansible

And there are no real world examples of magical empathetic twins with wormholes attached to their toes. :) There are many accounts of this type of connection between people. Then again.. Yeah, well, there are many accounts of all sorts of stuff that never actually happened. I advise you to keep an ...

Re: MUME Ansible

I've got a clarification/correction to make about something I said earlier. It's a bit off topic, but maybe someone will be interested anyway. Sending any kind of information faster than light would violate causality. That is, stuff that hasn't happened yet could effect what happens next - stuff fro...

Re: MUME Ansible

Coyote, if you hitting your toe caused your twin to feel pain at the same moment as you described, that would be faster than light communication. If you wanted to, you could hit your toe in some particular pattern, Morse code for example, to make your twin feel the pain in that same pattern and thus...

Re: MUME Ansible

Coyote, that is not what quantum entanglement is. It is not possible to use quantum entangle to send signals faster than the speed of light. Quantum entanglement is not much different to ordinary classical correlations. It's just about the state of one system being related to the state of another. T...

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)

The real life time spent is only a "cost" if you are not enjoying your time spent playing the game.

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)

"Players are not penalized for being new" No players are penalized for having to learn. I don't run this particular game, but I can tell you you will attract alot more people by turning the penalty around. I've been a one of those old-timer players who grumps when a game changes to make it not so d...

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)

Players are not penalised for being "new", they are penalised for the death of their character. The penalty is there to give some weight to the concept that "death is bad". The penalty is high so that people will understand that "death is _very_ bad". There is a correlation between being new and dyi...

Re: Too many skills, Not enough Pracs

For group xp, the most important mage spell is sleep. Maybe it's because I've only played bn mages, but in my opinion 'sleep' is much less useful than several mage spells. Of course, 'armour' is the most important mage spell for any kind of play. 'lightning bolt' and 'fireball' seem more useful for...

Re: Travel Points

I'm happy enough with the current TP system. The only times when I've started to get reduced XP due to lack of TP have been times where I haven't been travelling much. When I travel a lot, I don't need TP. When I XP in a small area, I start to need TP. So I'm happy with how it works. But maybe there...

If it is the piece of EQ that I'm thinking of it doesn't just help you escape from roots, but maybe I'm thinking of something else.

What Finwë said sounds pretty good to me. I'm not sure what the best way to balance the effects would be, but I like the overall system.

Re: Safespots

I generally agree with the principle, but that innkeeper is a very poor example, since being just a single, non-hunting mob, it is far from impossible for a solo darkie to finish off a low opponent who seeks refuge in there. However, such places as LB fortress, DT, VT and Brolg have too strong garr...

Re: Voluntary deletion?

I've asked to have characters of mine deleted a few times. From memory, the Valar never actually delete the characters, they just rename them. I think they are able to rename a character and even disassociated the character from its account, but not delete it. (So if I wanted "Dianos" to be deleted,...

Small website bug

I didn't know where else to post this, so I'm putting it here.

On the mume website, http://www.mume.org, there are usually links to the forums and the wiki on the sidebar thing. But if I click the "News Board" link on the side bar, the forum and wiki links disappear.

That's all.

Re: Question about mobdeath penalty (not complaint)

The way I see it is that mobs are highly predictable, and so the risk of mob death is typically much less than the risk of PK death. Therefore, to keep death as something that is feared and gets adrenaline pumping, the penalty of mob death is much higher. roughly speaking, risk of PK death * PK deat...

Re: Link cap

I don't know if this is a good idea or not. A couple of years ago I was a strong advocate for slowing down fair linked players, but now I'm not as sure. Just for the record, the main reason I don't play much these days is because of the slow speed of my link compared to others. When enemies enter th...
