BARAZINBAR, CARADHRAS, REDHORN
One of the Mountains of Moria, and the furthest north ot
the triad, the Redhorn has sheer, dull-red sides, and is topped with a silver
crown of snow year-round. The only known source of mithril was located under
the mountain, but it was the digging of the Dwarves of
Moria for the metal at its roots that released Durin's
Bane.
The tallest in the long chain of the Misty Mountains, it is named Barazinbar ("redhorn") because of its colour by Dwarves, while Elves call it Caradhras. The most southern of the passes of the Misty Mountains runs between this mountain and the Silvertine.
