DIP, FOCI, FOCUS

A focus is a magically imbued object bound to its owner, with various types rumored to exist, each possessing distinct powers. For example, a warrior might choose a focus to enhance battle skills, while a sorcerer may focus on arcane arts or healing. Some focus powers are always active, while others require explicit activation through the command

, where the target can be oneself, someone else, or an entire group.

To create a focus, one must cast create focus on the appropriate material component, ensuring the ceremony is conducted in the right place and manner. The vessel must also be enchanted and blessed for the focus to be bound to the caster successfully. Additionally, some foci require the vessel to undergo a dip ceremony in one of the pools on Tol Eressëa or in Valinor.

Note: Ownership is limited to one focus per person; old foci crumble and lose their powers when a new one is created.

What is MUME?

MUME, Multi-Users in Middle-earth, is a multiplayer text-based online game based upon J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth during the epic wars of the late Third Age between the forces of the Dark Lord and the armies of the Free peoples. MUME is completely at no cost and has been continuously running, expanded, and remastered by a community of volunteers since 1991.
