LOGOUT, QUIT

When you get tired of playing, you can leave the game by typing quit. There are consequences for quitting however.

If you quit while carrying items, your character will remain linkless in the game for a period of time. While linkless you can still be attacked by mobs or players, but you will try and auto flee from the fight, it is still risky and you could end up dying. After that linkless time, the game will disconnect you, this causes your character to linkless rent.

Some rooms in the game do not allow you to linkless rent in them, and will move you while you are disconnected. It is much safer and much cheaper to rent at an inn instead. If you had a mount with you, it might not be there when you return to the game.

Renting at an Inn is much less expensive then going linkless, and saves your character and all of your gear until you log back in and return to the game. You can also keep your mount at a stable as well, for a small fee. It is also safe from being attacked, and you will re enter the game where you left off.

If you just type quit and are carrying anything, you are asked to confirm your intentions. You can do that by typing quit for real (quit immediately and quit now works too, but it's cooler to write quit for real). Due to the consequences of quitting, we try to prevent people by quitting accidentally.

Tolkien’s Middle-earth during the epic wars of the late Third Age between the forces of the Dark Lord and the armies of the Free peoples. MUME is completely at no cost and has been continuously running, expanded, and remastered by a community of volunteers since 1991.
