Carved oak staff

From MUME

The carved oak staff is a two-handed weapon that can also be held in the off-hand and used for defence. It is created from a perfect oak branch by the carpenter. When blessed and enchanted, it can be combined with a blue crystal to focus it.

A polished oaken staff lies here.
>examine staff
About six feet long, this staff was crafted from a perfect branch of oak
by a master woodworker. Runes are carved on its sides, and its surface
is smoothly polished. Truly this is a masterwork of carpentry.

>consider staff
It is a carved oak staff.
This striking weapon can be wielded two-handed.
It is poor while attacking and excellent while defending; its speed is very slow, and it inflicts
little damage upon hitting.
It weighs eleven pounds.

Focus

Atop the staff, a bronze claw holds a large blue crystal, which glows faintly.

A focused staff functions as a light source and decreases the chance for enemies to resist your spells. Some items can be embedded in the staff to empower it further. The list of items is as follows:

Item Effect Description when embedded
Iron bar +ob and pb its foot is shod with iron
Huge silver bracer +ob and pb silvery bands encircle it from top to bottom
Chunk of metal +ob and pb an orb of black metal surrounds its tip
Lustrous opal +attack spell power lustrous fire opal has been inlaid in it

Star sapphire -spell save a six-rayed star shines from the middle of a blue stone set in the staff
Brilliant adamant -spell save

Up to three items can be embedded, and they all have to be different. An embedded item can't be removed. Depending on what items are embedded, the name of the staff changes to reinforced oak staff (if more metal than gems) or bejewelled oak staff (if more gems than metal).
