(S."Stone-land") The great Dunedain kingdom
that lies west
of Mordor and north of the Bay of Belfelas. It includes
a number of regions including Calenardhon (later Rohan),
Anorien, Ithilien, Lebennin, Belfelas, Lamedon. Anfalas
and Andrast. Osgiliath on the Anduin served as the
Gondorian capital until T.A. 1640, when the throne was
moved to Minas Anor (Minas Tirith).
