ENCOUNTER, ENCOUNTERS

Encounters in the game are meticulously tracked to ensure a comprehensive record of interactions, whether they involve communication, spell usage, combat, or simply meeting another character. These encounters play a crucial role in various game mechanics, including but not limited to war points, experience loss, turning fortresses, and some subrace perks.

Encounters are recorded based on four main types of interactions:

  • Communication Encounters: Any interaction where you engage in conversation or communicate with another entity. This includes yells and other forms of direct in-character communication.
  • Spell Encounters: Instances where you cast spells on others or are targeted by spells. This encompasses offensive, defensive, and supportive spells, tracking both the caster and the recipient.
  • Combat Encounters: Situations where you deal or receive damage in combat with another character. This covers all forms of physical or magical combat interactions, ensuring that every attack and defense is noted.
  • Meeting Encounters: Simply encountering another character without engaging in communication, spell usage, or combat. These are passive interactions that still impact game mechanics.

What is MUME?

MUME, Multi-Users in Middle-earth, is a multiplayer text-based online game based upon J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth during the epic wars of the late Third Age between the forces of the Dark Lord and the armies of the Free peoples. MUME is completely at no cost and has been continuously running, expanded, and remastered by a community of volunteers since 1991.
