ESSENCE
Each object has a set of essence aspects: for example, a
sword might be physical
, metal
, and
slashing
, while an enchanted thorn would be
physical
, magic
,
wood
, and piercing
.
Each character has two sets of essence aspects, one
describing the nature of its physical attacks, the other describing its
defence. Attack aspects are influenced by the
character itself (Human
,
Orkish
, wraithlike
, etc.) and by the
weapon it is wielding; defence aspects depend on the
character, and on any magical
items (apart from weapons) the
character is wearing.
Whenever there is an attack, MUME compares the attack and defence essences, in order to calculate a modifier to the efficiency of the attack.
