SEARCH

The search skill enables you to search for otherwise hidden people, exits and objects in the room.

Searching isn't as easy as it might seem. There are numerous tricks you can learn about how people and creatures hide their treasures, or doors, traps or even themselves! Knowing how to find hidden entrances or exits is important for any adventurer, I tell you.

A brilliant mind and good eyesight are quite important when learning this.

Searching for hidden exits

With a given direction, you search for a secret door in that way. You need at least one practice session in search to search for exits. The better you are, the faster you will find something (if there is anything to discover).

Example:

  > search down
  > open <secret>

Once you have become aware of a hidden exit, you can interact with it as any normal exit.

If you find a hidden exit, any group members in the same room will also be made aware of it.

Searching for hidden objects

search with no arguments finds any object hidden in the room. The better your skill, the faster the search goes. If you know what you are looking for, reveal is a better alternative.

Example:

  > search
  > reveal sword

Searching for hidden people

Type search <effort> (where <effort> is one of quickly, fast, normally, carefully, or thoroughly) to look for hidden people. Your chances of success will depend on your eyesight, hearing and sense of smell, as well as on your search skill.

Example:

  > search q

A succesful search will only make the hidden character known to you. See reveal to make it known to your group.

Searching on bulletin boards

If you are at a bulletin board, you can search board <text> to find posts containing <text>.
